Carpets and Colours

A quick update to let everybody know that several cosmetic decisions have been made relating to the interior decor of the new chapel. They include the following -

It has been decided that the colour scheme for the carpets etc will be burgundy. This is the new version of the old pink scheme that many of you may have seen. However, the colours are much much darker (yes, that was two muches) than the old scheme. It was agreed by everybody in attendance, at the meeting where this decision was made, that this was the best colour choice. Interestingly, the chapel will be carpeted with carpet tiles rather than traditional carpet runs. This will allow us to rip and replace areas where the carpet has been stainend or otherwise damaged. Thew Newcastle Stake Centre has recently been re-carpeted with carpet tiles which you will be able to see at Stake Conference etc.

We have decided to kit the building with whiteboards instead of blackboards. This will mean that we will ahve to be extra careful that our children dont deface the walls with the whitebaord markers ;-)

We have also decided not to have any hanging lights in the chapel area. The only lights on the chapel ceiling will be recessed spotlights. This will enable the chapel area to be used for more activities, including soft ball games for the youth.

We will have the following two pictures hanging on the walls of the foyer area -

  • The 2nd Coming picture with the Saviour in white coming through the clouds
  • The picture of the Saviour stood at the door with no handle

Also, the brick used for the chapel will be a local red brick and the steeple will be charcoal grey.

Finally, we are still hoping for a completion date of April 2009.

Exciting times!

Ground Breaking Service

The Bishop and the Stake President have arranged an appropriate date to hold the Ground Breaking Service for the new chapel. The date and time is as follows -

Friday 30th May at 7pm

Invitations will soon be available to hand out to Home and Visiting teaching families as well as
former prominent members of the ward/branch.

Details of the planned service will be posted shortly.

The following day, Saturday 31st May, is one of our assigned Stake Temple Days. The Bishopric have also decided to use this day as a Ward Temple day. It is felt that this will be an ideal opportunity to attend the Temple and show our appreciation for the Gospel, our Saviour, and the new chapel. It would be nice to see as many people from the ward there as possible.
